Website Disclosure Requirements for Retargeting

The retargeting platform allows businesses to show targeted ads online to people who have recently visited the businesses website.  Retargeting is a great way to bring people back to your website and increase conversions but you need to let your website visitors know how your website works with cookies.

You need to comply with your state or federal laws when using

When you use the retargeting pixels to collect audience data, you’re required to have the following information in your website’s privacy policy:

  • An appropriate description of how you’re using retargeting to advertise online.
  • A message about how third-party vendors, including, uses cookies to serve ads based on someone’s past behavior on your website.
  • How that collected information may be shared
  • Your privacy policy needs to tell people to opt out of’s use of cookies by visiting the Opt-Out page.
  • Your agreement’s effective date and a description of any changes since then, if any.
